The City of Fond du Lac Inspection Division is accepting applications for a Plumbing Inspector/Asst Building Inspector. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure public safety by conducting plumbing inspections, reviewing plumbing permits and plans and assisting plumbing contractors and property owners. Oversees the Inspection Division in the absence of the Chief Inspector.
The successful candidate will have the knowledge, experience, and skills necessary to perform the essential duties of the following:
- Field Inspections
- Onsite inspections of plumbing work
- Working with Plumbing Contractors
- Working with plumbing contractors on code questions, working with State on code questions; reviewing plumbing plans (the City is a designated plumbing plan review entity for the State); conduct educational sessions on plumbing code issues for plumbing contractors
- Working with the Public
- Answering questions from the public about plumbing issues; general/basic code inquiries
- Administrative Review/Permit/Plan Review
- Review and process plumbing permits, review plumbing plans
- Complaints
- Dealing with complaints from the public or others regarding plumbing concerns
Minimum training and experience required/preferred to perform essential job functions: Graduation from high school or equivalent; experience/testing through State of Wisconsin as a Plumber Master; certified Inspector UDC HVAC and Inspector Commercial Plumbing (ability to obtain after hire); Cross Connection Control Tester certification (ability to obtain after hire); and possession of a valid Wisconsin “Class D” Driver’s License.

Salary Range: We offer a competitive compensation package ($34.52 – $36.87/hour) based upon knowledge, skills, and abilities with potential to receive additional step increases based on meeting and/or exceeding goals/expectations; annual COLA and step increases pending City Council approval of budgets; and future promotional opportunities in alignment with succession and career path.
