The City of Nekoosa is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of Director of Public Works. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing and managing the public works department, ensuring the delivery of services, leading the public works team and effectively communicate to a variety of community stakeholders.

Position Overview: As the Director of Public Works, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, development, maintenance and management of the city’s infrastructure, including streets, parks, utilities, cemetery, forestry, fleet procurement and maintenance and public facilities. The Director role requires leadership skills, technical knowledge and the ability to partner with other city departments, consultants, contractors and community members.

Key Responsibilities:
• Managing and directing the daily operations of the Public Works Department.
• Supervises the department staff, including recruitment and training.
• Oversee budgeting, purchasing and procurement for public works projects.
• Knowledge in public works administration, capital project development and field maintenance operations.
• Ensuring compliance with city codes, regulations and safety standards.
• Coordinates long term planning for city infrastructure projects.
• Ability to effectively interact with members of the public, elected officials, and city staff.

The ideal candidate should possess extensive knowledge in the public works field with a minimum of 5 years’ work experience in related duties and functions, management experience, record keeping and communication skills. An associates degree and/or a certificate in public works supervisory academy is a plus. Basic computer skills and knowledge and familiarity with office software, GIS and other technical programs relevant to public works operations.
