General Definition of Work

• Performs intermediate skilled trades work in a typical Public Works environment including, but not limited to:
  • Fleet maintenance and repair
  • Operating light and heavy equipment
  • Snow plowing
  • Buildings and grounds
  • Parks duties
  • Tree care
  • Manual labor
  • Related work as apparent or assigned in all weather conditions
• Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Foreman.
• Due to the tourist nature of the city, maintenance staff are required to work overtime, weekends and holidays on a rotating schedule.
• The city does not have separate departments under DPW; therefore, maintenance workers perform all positions to include, but not limited to:
  • Streets
  • Parks
  • Buildings and grounds
  • Cemeteries
  • Forestry
  • Lakefront
  • Storm water
• Extreme early start times are typical year-round (12:00am-5:00am).
• On-call status for inclement weather and/or emergencies as necessary.
• Working on elevated surfaces and on, in or near bodies of water is typical.

Ideal Candidate:

• Exemplary employment history.
• Punctual and mechanically inclined.
• Able to perform or learn the duties of the position.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a construction, maintenance, service, tree or landscaping setting.
• Snow plowing experience in a municipal or commercial environment.
• Valid driver’s license in good standing.
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement prior to employment.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Hourly wage: $30.88/hr.

• Overtime rate applies over 40 hours/week and for weekend and holiday work.
• Selected candidate will be subject to a thorough background investigation and pre-employment drug/alcohol screen.
• DPW employees must live within a 1-hour response time to the shop.
